Barça stand to earn 1.8 million euros for Marc Cucurella's move to the Premier League. Spanish radio station Cadena Cope broke the news of the left-back's transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion, with the English side paying his18 million euro buy-out. And Barça are set to receive a tidy little windfall due to the sell-on agreement they had with Getafe which was inserted as a clause in the players' contract. In these difficult times when Barça are counting every penny, any financial injection, however small, is welcome.

Cucurella's attempts to break through at Camp Nou

Cucurella, an international with Spain and silver medal winner at this summer's Olympics in Tokyo, came up through the youth system at Barcelona and was sold to Getafe two summers ago. At the time, coach Ernesto Valverde had more plans for Juan Miranda than Cucurella and the defender, faced with a lack of opportunities at Camp Nou, was loaned out to Eibar in July 2019. On his return Valverde sanctioned his transfer to Getafe for 10 million euros, making him the most expensive signing in Getafe's history. Included in that deal was a fee which Barcelona would receive from any future sale - 1.8 million euros.
