Following their 5-0 away win over Andorra on Saturday, group leaders England are currently sitting four points ahead of second-placed Albania, and a win against Hungary will put Gareth Southgate’s side on the brink of securing their ticket to Qatar 2022.

England defeated Hungary 4-0 in Budapest in September on an evening that was marred by racist abuse aimed at England players by Hungary fans. And with home advantage, the Euro 2021 finalists will be hotly tipped to do the double over Marco Rossi’s men, who find themselves in fourth place in the group with 10 points. Anything less than a hugely unlikely victory at Wembley will leave Hungary’s already outside chances of scooping the second-place playoff spot in tatters.

If Hungary’s task wasn’t difficult enough, it won’t be helped by the fact that England have recorded an impressive 12 consecutive World Cup Qualifying victories on home soil, while the Three Lions have not lost a World Cup qualifier at home since a 1-0 defeat to Germany in 2000.

Having rested several regular starters against Andorra, Southgate will be expected to recall the likes of Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount to the starting XI for the match against Hungary. With such heavy-hitters on the pitch at Wembley on Tuesday, not many would bet against England stretching their unbeaten streak in home WC qualifiers to 13 games.
