Barcelona make contact for Bakambú to replace Agüero

Barça have made contact to try to cover the Argentinian's absence with the signing of the forward. He plays for Beijing Guoan and will be free on 1 January.

Update:
Barcelona make contact for Bakambú to replace Agüero

Cedric Bakambú is back on Barcelona's radar. The LaLiga giants are looking to strengthen their attack after the news that Sergio Agüero will be out for a minimum of three months. The Congolese striker is "a very strong option" at the moment.

Bakambú currently plies his trade for Beijing Guoan, and he finishes his contract with the Chinese outfit on 1 January, meaning that he would arrive on a free transfer.

Barcelona's previous interest in forward

Barcelona had already sounded out his signing in the last summer window, but Beijing Guoan were asking for a transfer fee that was not possible for Joan Laporta's board to assume at the time. The LaLiga club finally opted to sign Luuk de Jong from Sevilla. Sources close to AS say that this is a very possible option come January.

This is the third time that Barcelona have looked at Bakambú. When Eric Abidal was at the helm he tried to sign him in the 2019/20 season. On that occasion, Bakambú's arrival was to cover Luis Suárez's absence through injury. The deal was practically done and the player took a plane to travel from China to Barcelona, but at the stopover in Hong Kong he was informed that Barcelona had called off the operation.

Bakambú has LaLiga experience, having played for Villarreal for three seasons, from 2015 to 2018. He made 105 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, scoring 47 goals. With his current club he has scored 58 goals in 87 games, an average of 0.67 goals per game.
