Hirving Lozano signed with Napoli in 2019, becoming the most expensive Mexican player of all time after the Serie A side paid $46.5 million to PSV Eindhoven. The Mexican international made his debut against Juventus in Turin when scored in Napoli’s 4-3 defeat.

Ready for the next chapter in his career

Lozano’s time at Napoli has not been ideal and after completing the international window with the Mexico national team, he spoke about his future. The 26-year-old started in the back-to-back defeats against the United States (2-0) and Canada (2-1).

I think I play in a very competitive club, with very good teammates. I have grown a lot due to this,” Lozano said during an interview with TV Azteca Deportes. “The truth is, I would love to play at a bigger club. I consider myself a very competitive player, with clear goals.”

I feel like I’m at a good level and I would like to take this new step. However, let’s take one step at a time. Now, I must improve as much as possible, both personally and as a player. Then I hope that, God willing, it can happen,” he concluded.

Carlo Ancelotti was the one who brought Lozano to the Serie A, but after a streak of bad results the club decided to part ways with the Italian manager. Gennaro Gattuso then took over and Lozano was no longer a regular starter because of his ‘lack of effort’ during practice.

Napoli sit top of Serie A

The situation was not ideal for Lozano but he was patient and eventually earned Gattuso’s trust and returned to the starting XI towards the end of last season. Now he is under manager Luciano Spalletti and Napoli are at the top of the Serie A table with 32 points. Lozano has made 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
