Can the Bengals sign La'el Collins?

Everyone around the world agrees that the Cincinnati Bengals getting to the Super Bowl was an amazing achievement. They also agree that, more than anything else, the Bengals need to focus on their offensive line. There are signs that they are doing just that. In recent days, they have signed Alex Cappa from Tampa Bay and Ted Karras from New England.

La’el Collins, the veteran tackle was released by Dallas to make $10 million in cap room, and has become one of the hottest commodities on the free agent market. The Bengals wasted no time in getting him into town and reports are that there are good feelings on both sides that a deal can be done.

"Nothing’s fully agreed to yet, but it’s fair to assume their plan is to not let him leave town without having signed a contract," says Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

The ex-LSU man, and we all know how the Bengals love LSU players, has ties with offensive line Frank Pollack from Dallas as well.

And to add another wrinkle in the tapestry, the news that Deshaun Watson is headed to Cleveland could work in the Bengals favor as well. The Saints’ Terron Armstead had been waiting for that trade to complete before deciding whether or not to stay in New Orleans. With Watson out of the picture, it seems likely that he will take his talents elsewhere and Cincinnati is a top contender to land him as well.

It will take a lot of hustle and more than a little bit of luck, but the Bengals could wind up with the strongest offensive line in the league. Amazing when you think that they gave up the third-most sacks in the league at 55. To make the post-season was a miracle, let alone the Super Bowl. Their quarterback is one of the greatest that we have seen in a generation and their receivers are some of the best in the league. If they can get their pass protection together, there is no limit to how far they can go.
