Record fans at Barcelona’s women’s soccer game

A world record 91,553 fans at a women's soccer game came to see Real Madrid take on Barcelona at Camp Nou during the Champions League El Clásico.

Barcelona's Champions League Clásico with Real Madrid attracted a world record crowd for a women's game.

91,553 fans came to witness Barcelona beat Madrid 5-2 to move on to the semifinals.This number beat the previous record for fans in attendance at a women's soccer game, which was 90,185 at the World Cup final between the USA and China in 1999.

"It's going to encourage a lot of girls to start to play more football, and grow, grow, grow every time" said one fan in attendance.

Another fan spoke to the importance of having this kind of attendance at every game after this one. "The important thing is that people come back this Saturday to watch them take on Villareal and that the women's team continue to have what they had today at Camp Nou."
