The pop star’s trademark look has nothing to do with fashion – and everything to do with a childhood accident that nearly changed his life.

It’s not a fashion statement: the scary true story behind Charlie Puth’s eyebrow scar
Charlie Puth is one of the most streamed singers in the world and has millions of followers across his social media platforms. Everyone has heard at least one of his biggest hits – We Don’t Talk Anymore, Attention, See You Again. But beyond his music, many fans have long been intrigued by his eyebrow, which has become a defining feature of his public image.
The Puth attack that nearly ended in tragedy
Puth has always appeared to have a shaved eyebrow, which might seem like a simple fashion choice. But the reality is very different. When he was just two years old, he suffered an accident that nearly cost him his life. He was attacked by a dog – a black Labrador – and the bite caused a deep wound to his head, right through his right eyebrow. He required emergency surgery and doctors were able to save his life, but the scar remained, serving as a permanent reminder of the incident.
In a 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said he was often surprised to see people shaving their eyebrows because of him.
“It’s crazy because I have a scar in my right eyebrow, but people who don’t know me very well think that I intentionally shave that part. Now I see people on Twitter shaving their eyebrows and saying, ‘I’m a Puther for life,’ and I think, ‘Oh my God! I hope your mom doesn’t get mad at you,’” Puth said.
He will sing the anthem at the Super Bowl
The singer has also earned four Grammy nominations and possesses perfect pitch, a rare innate ability that allows someone to identify an exact musical note without any external reference. With that in mind, organizers appear to have made a fitting choice: Puth will perform the US national anthem ahead of the NFL’s biggest game, Super Bowl LX, which will see the New England Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks.
