2023 Golden Globes: What celebrities will present awards? Ana de Armas, Tarantino...

After a one-year hiatus from the traditional in-person ceremony, the Golden Globes are back.

Last year facing backlash and a boycott from many major figures in the TV and film industry, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) opted for a smaller non-televised ceremony. The HPFA came under harsh scrutiny after the Los Angeles Times uncovered systemic and discriminatory practices within the organization. One of the most concerning findings was that a Black journalist had not been added to the membership since 2002. Over the last year, the organization has worked to expand the diversity of its membership, which has regained the cautious support of many celebrities and NBC, the network that has traditionally carried the event live.

Who will present at the 80th Golden Globes?

The ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday evening, will be hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. The comedian is most known for his standup and sitcom, The Carmichael Show.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Carmichael was asked how he felt about hosting, to which he said, “I was very excited [...], and then I remembered that I would have to work with my arch nemesis, NBC marketing.” He then explained in great detail many of the creative differences he and the marketing had over billboards and promos. You may be surprised by the advertisements NBC agreed to, but they will surely get a laugh.

As far as presents go, the HFPA has released the names of a dozen actors, directors, and entertainers who will give out awards throughout the evening. The list includes Ana De Armas, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne, Nicole Byer, Niecy Nash-Betts, Quentin Tarantino, and Tracy Morgan.

Which musical guests will perform?

It is clear that the organization wants to show that there are making progress on embracing racial diversity, touting that the list of musical guests will include Chloe Flower, “a fierce advocate for women of color in the music industry.” During the show, Flower will release a new song called “Golden Hour,” which the organization says is “inspired by her upcoming appearance.”

How to watch the 80th Golden Globes ceremony?

The ceremony will air at 5 PM PT/ 8 PM ET on NBC and can also be streamed through the network’s platform, Peacock.
