A retiree walks into a supermarket, finds $21,500 and what he does next leaves everyone stunned: “I was scared”

Imagine being a retired person, going to the supermarket on just another ordinary day, and suddenly stumbling upon a bag that, to your surprise, contains thousands of dollars inside. This is the unusual and surprising experience recently lived by a resident of Zaragoza, in Spain.

The man, who had retired from his position with the local regional administration, was in the parking lot of a supermarket when, unexpectedly, he came across an abandoned bag on the ground. When he looked inside, the retiree found something he never expected: the bag contained nearly $21,500 in bundles of cash.

That’s what the man told journalists at Heraldo: “I came to pick up a few things for the house. As I was parking, I saw someone drop a bag. I went to pick it up, and when I looked up, the person was gone. I figured they had gone inside to shop, so I grabbed a cart and went in,” explained the retiree. Unable to find the bag’s owner, he initially decided to leave it with the store’s cashiers… until something changed everything.

“I thought I’d take a quick look, thinking maybe it was medicine or something… and I saw it was full of money. I wasn’t expecting to see stacks of bills in a bag. At first, I was a little scared — there were bundles of cash almost a hand’s height. I got nervous, closed the bag, and hid it under the cat food I had in the cart,” he said, adding that that’s why he ultimately didn’t hand the bag over to store staff.

After discovering what was inside, the man called the police: “The guy must’ve come back, but I was looking for him inside while he was out in the parking lot, so we missed each other. ”Fortunately, the man from Zaragoza says they got lucky — his nephew ran into the officers and handed over the bag, which was then taken to the police station.

“Honestly, I’m very thankful, very happy — the man gave me a hug. I even got emotional. He thanked me so much,” he concluded, bringing to an end a story that, while strange and unexpected at times, ended on a happy note: with the man getting his money back, and the retiree receiving widespread praise for his honesty.
