Black Friday store hours: What time do major retailers open on Nov. 28?
Here’s everything you need to know about opening times on Black Friday.

Time to burn off that Thanksgiving turkey with some elbow action in the crowded shops this Black Friday.
As the food settles, many shoppers in the United States are preparing for one of the year’s biggest retail frenzies/horrors [delete as appropriate]: Black Friday.
Though things have soemwhat shifted in recent years, the pattern for 2025 is clear and the vast majority of major retailers are closed on Thanksgiving Day itself, saving their biggest blowout for the following morning.
This year, most major chains plan to open their doors early on Black Friday — commonly between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time.
For example, regular-hours stalwarts like Walmart and Target are rolling their usual early-morning opening time into the Black Friday schedule. Some other retailers are even pushing their openings earlier: Kohl’s and Old Navy may open as early as 5:00 a.m. while Dick’s Sporting Goods and others might start around 6:00 a.m.
The move toward earlier openings reflects both competition among retailers and changing consumer behaviour. Once upon a time, Black Friday shopping kicked off mid-morning; these days, retailers aim to capture customers as early as possible. The rise of online shopping and pre-holiday discount periods has also influenced physical stores to respond with aggressive early-morning deals in store.
That said, not every store is rushing to open before dawn. While several chains follow the 5:00–6:00 a.m. schedule, others stick to more moderate early-morning hours, and some still leave times unannounced. Keep in mind as well that regional and local variations are common, so what’s on-time for one city or state may mean late arrivals for another.
