Diego Suárez, longevity expert: “The food pyramid is a fallacy and an invention that makes us sick through sugar”
The health professional shared a video on TikTok explaining why obesity rates have risen in today’s society.

In the field of health, nutrition plays a fundamental role in how the body functions and performs. The quality of the foods we choose directly affects how the human body responds, since it ultimately reflects the habits and routines we maintain over a long period of time.
In this context, Diego Suárez, a longevity expert and social media educator, posted a short TikTok video in which he outlines what he believes is the main reason obesity rates have increased significantly in modern society compared to earlier decades.
“Look at this video from 1970. I’m tired of saying it. Back in the 70s, obesity didn’t exist because the industry that would later make us sick didn’t exist, and neither did the so-called deadly food pyramid,” the health professional begins, before launching a sharp critique.

“It was created in 1991 and claimed that 60% of your diet should be carbohydrates. It was all a lie, an invention designed so the food industry could make us sick through sugar,” he says. He adds that “starting in the 1990s, people began gaining weight, and the obesity curve started rising without stopping.”
“Stop using sunflower, canola, soybean, and grapeseed oils”
“People used to eat meat, eggs, fish, and vegetables without pesticides. Ultra-processed foods didn’t exist,” he explains. Continuing his argument, Suárez recommends following a diet based on natural, minimally processed foods.
“Lard, healthy and natural meals, animal-based proteins like meat, eggs, and fish. Stop using sunflower, canola, soybean, and grapeseed oils. Don’t you realize that food industry marketing is poisoning and misleading us?” he concludes.
