Update:

Firefighters from the Oceanside Fire Department (OFD) have been battling to put out a massive blaze that broke out at the Oceanside Pier in San Diego, California. Even with the help of fire-fighting boats, they struggled to contain the flames.

The OFD says they have “made good progress on the pier fire.” They are currently working to make sure that they have put out the blaze completely, and that it does not rekindle.

According to a press statement from the OFD, the fire began at a vacant building at the end of the pier that used to house a Ruby’s Diner that closed down three years ago due to losses suffered during the pandemic.

There have been no reports of injuries so far. The fire department has asked residents to stay away from the immediate vicinity of the fire. As of early afternoon, the OFD was still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
