The Oscar nominations have been announced for 2023. The list is chock full of respected directors, actors, and actresses and has already got tongues wagging for who pundits think will take home the biggest awards.
It wouldn’t be crazy to think that it would need honely crafted acting from adults to claim the prestigious award. In fact, there has been a number of Oscar wins by children. In total, there has been three wins by children in Oscar history.
Youngest director
Damien Chazelle is the youngest director to have won an Oscar aged just 32 for his work on ‘La La Land’. In total the aclaimed director has picked up 26 nominations and 10 wins. ‘Babylon’ is up for 3 Oscars this year but not in the Best Director category.
Youngest actor
Adrien Brody holds the title of youngest winner of Best Actor for his performance in ‘The Pianist’, winning the accolade in 2002 at age 29.
His award has been marred by the reaction to winning where Brody kissed Halle Berry on stage in an unplanned move. The footage has aged very poorly in subsequent years.
Youngest actress
Youngest Actress awardess are much younger than their male counterparts. Marlee Matlin won her award aged 21 for ‘Children of a Lesser God.’
Jennifer Lawrence comes a close second with her win in 2012 aged 22.
Youngest supporting actor
Timothy Hutton is the youngest recipient of the Best Supporting Actor Award. he won his statue in 1980 aged 20 for his work in ‘Ordinary People’, directed by Robert Redford.
Youngest supporting actress
Tatum O’Neal won the youngest Oscar on this list with her performance in Paper Moon aged just 10 years old. During filming she turned nine years old, an incredible feat for such a young actress. Unfortunately this success was not continued in the rest of her career.
