Linda Bean dies at 82: what was her net worth and which companies did she manage?

A great wealth, her philanthropic ventures and her connection with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign kept Bean in the news.

Update:
LL Bean Inc

Linda L. Bean, the granddaughter of L.L. Bean’s founder, Leon Leonwood Bean, and a prominent figure in Maine’s business and political landscape, has died at the age of 82. Her passing was confirmed by her business manager, Veronika Carlson, who provided a statement on Sunday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Linda Bean’s net worth

Throughout her life, Linda Bean demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Her contributions to various industries, particularly in Maine, have left a lasting impact. As a member of the L.L. Bean board for nearly 50 years, she played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s trajectory.

Additionally, Linda’s ventures extended beyond the family business of providing high quality boots. She invested in lobster dealerships, founded the renowned Perfect Maine Lobster brand in 2007, and owned and managed several establishments including general stores, inns, and vacation rentals along Maine’s central coast.

The Bean family was reported to have a net worth of around $1.9 billion.

Beyond her business ventures, Bean was known for her philanthropic efforts, which focused on supporting various initiatives in Maine. She championed causes such as the LifeFlight of Maine medical helicopters and the Maine Botanical Gardens at Boothbay. Bean also dedicated herself to preserving the legacy of renowned artist N.C. Wyeth, as well as the family’s properties, reflecting her deep appreciation for Maine’s cultural heritage.

Linda Bean’s political involvement

Bean’s involvement in politics, particularly as a conservative activist, garnered both admiration and controversy. She ran for Congress twice, in 1988 and 1992, advocating for conservative policies including opposition to abortion rights, gay rights legislation, and gun control.

Her support for Republican causes led to significant contributions to political campaigns, including Donald Trump’s presidential bid in 2016. Here she is back in 2017 on Fox.

However, Bean’s political affiliations also sparked controversy. In 2017, she faced scrutiny from the Federal Election Commission for excessive contributions to a political action committee supporting the aforementioned Trump campaign. Subsequently, some liberal groups called for a boycott of L.L. Bean, prompting a defence of her from Trump himself.

As friends, family and others that knew her mourn her passing, Linda’s legacy will likely be characterised by her unwavering dedication to her home state of Maine, her entrepreneurial achievements, and her active involvement in political discourse. Despite differing political views, she also earned respect for her business acumen and commitment to Maine’s cultural and economic prosperity from various opponents.
