Neither Denmark nor Sweden: This is the happiest country in the world
International Day of Happiness: Which country is the happiest on Earth?

Donald Trump has made Denmark so angry they’re no longer the happiest country on Earth. OK, that’s not the reason why, but they’re certainly not happy with him and you’re two sentences in so let’s see who is at number one.
The list of the happiest countries in the world has been revealed in Gallup’s World Happiness Report 2024, which showed the current winner claim the title for the 7th consecutive year while also recording a huge decrease in the happiness levels of 15-24-year-olds in the United States.
For 2024, Finland was the top-ranked nation in terms of happiness, with former Prime Minister Sanna Marin acknowledging a “deeper kind of happiness than cheerfulness” in the people.
“We are not perhaps the most cheerful people in the globe,” she told Semafor, “but of course, we have a good nation and we have a good society.” Marin reasoned that Nordic countries are typically high in the list due to their welfare society model, which “enables everyone to have a good life.”
Finland gave every homeless person a house and within 6 months 85% had a job and were financially independent.

Delving a little deeper, we can see that people in the US aged between 50 and 60 were generally happier than those under 30. The country stands out as one with the biggest gap between happiness levels determined by age. An emerging loneliness epidemic in the States is also hinted at by the report.

As for the least happiest countries in the world, 7 of the bottom 10 come from sub-Saharan Africa, with Sierra Leone the only African nation north of the continent’s desert region. Lebanon and the Taliban-led Afghanistan make up the rest, with the latter rock bottom of the report.
