Would the Christmas season be complete without the tunes that accompany the holidays? Mariah Carey’s hit song ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ has become emblematic of the genre, with many making it their December anthem. However, this year, listeners have shattered previous records.
It is not uncommon for this song to top all Spotify lists during the Christmas season. The beginning of the explosion
The song’s popularity soared with the release of Love Actually in 2003. The world connected with the melody and embraced Carey’s addition as a part of its main soundtrack for Christmas.
Beyond the Christmas magic, there is a business aspect to the song’s success. Forbes collected data from various newspapers that estimated the income that Carey earned annually from ‘All I Want for Christmas is You.’ The Economist estimated that she earned around $2.5 million dollars, while The New York Post raised the figure to $3 million. According to the same report, Carey has earned approximately $60 million since 1994 from the song. This translates to $20 million every 10 years, or $10 million every five years.
