Trump builds (digital) wall: US entry blocked for visitors with this on their cell or laptop
US border authorities expand screening powers, allowing device inspections that could affect visas and residency status.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has begun rolling out a new screening program at the country’s international border crossings known as Enhanced Verification. The initiative strengthens security measures and allows immigration authorities to review travelers’ electronic devices in search of potentially suspicious activity.
The new immigration policies allow for visas and residency permits to be revoked if information deemed a threat to national security is detected. These measures are backed by an executive order signed last year, which tightened entry requirements for both migrants and tourists and directly affects the validity and issuance of visas.
Since taking office, Donald Trump pushed for a hardening of immigration policy with the aim of curbing illegal immigration. The approved provisions authorize border agents to inspect travelers and deny entry to the country.
What new US device controls are there?
According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), mobile phones and computers may be inspected by authorities during border checks. These inspections also apply to legal residents, particularly when the dissemination of illegal content is detected.
Authorities warn that the detection of suspicious activity can lead to the opening of a report and the possible loss of a visa. Refusing to submit to these inspections may result in devices being detained.
Among the content considered high risk are messages or emails about job searches without the appropriate authorization, references to studying without a student visa, or information related to weapons, drugs, or other elements regarded as a threat.
