It’s the start of a new year, and for many Americans, it’s time to list the aspects of life they would want to improve. Here are popular 2026 resolutions.

What are the most common New Year’s resolutions for Americans for 2026?

2026 is almost here, and just as they have in the past, many Americans are making New Year’s resolutions as a way to reflect on the past year, identify areas for personal improvement, and set goals for the coming year.
The beginning of a new year feels like a natural time to turn the page and start fresh, even if past attempts have been unsuccessful. Forbes Health found in a 2023 poll that most people give up on their resolutions less than four months into a new year.
Despite such failures, the psychological “reset” motivates people to make positive changes and work on unfulfilled goals from the previous year. Many remain hopeful they will finally take the steps to improve their lives.
More money on the mind of many for 2026
For 2026, a lot of adults in the United States are putting their focus on finances, at least as far as New Year’s resolutions are concerned.
According to Statista, the top objective that people want to focus on in the coming year is to save more money, with 21% of respondents choosing this option.
- Exercise more: 48 percent
- Save more money: 46 percent
- Eat healthier: 45 percent
- Spend more time with family and friends: 42 percent
- Lose weight: 31 percent
- Improve work performance: 24 percent
- Do more for the environment: 24 percent
- Reduce stress at work: 22 percent

Other typical New Years resolutions include: to quit smoking and to reduce their spending on living expenses such as food and energy bills.
A new year brings hope for a better future for some, but not all are sold on the idea of New Year’s resolutions. Many adults have learned how difficult it is to keep up the good and intentions and they won’t be making any such resolutions at all.
