Blue Jays fans joke on social media about Ohtani playing in Toronto in the World Series
Fans of the Toronto side have seen the brighter side of having to face Ohtani.

As the Toronto Blue Jays prepare to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 World Series, fans are revisiting a humorous moment from the past.
In 2023, reports emerged that appeared to suggest Shohei Ohtani was en route to Toronto, sparking a flurry of speculation and excitement among Blue Jays supporters. Although Ohtani ultimately signed with the Dodgers, the incident has now become a source of amusement, with fans now joking that Ohtani is finally on a plane to Toronto.
Lise Hawkins, a member of Ohtani’s Canadian fan club, admitted that “I think it confused a lot of people, but it was just a very joyful moment where we were celebrating both things that we love, the Toronto Blue Jays and Shohei Ohtani." She said that there was no “anger at him, not resentment” for choosing the Dodgers, just “sheer disappointment.”

“I hope Ohtani doesn’t go too hard on the Blue Jays”
As for who she’ll be supporting in the World Series, Hawkins said: “I am a Toronto Blue Jays fan, but I am an Ohtani fan – I’m not a Dodgers fan. But in terms of my loyal following for a baseball team, I would still be aligned with the Toronto Blue Jays.” Jaeden Sasaki, a former Triple-A baseball player who supports both the Blue Jays and Ohtani, concurred: “I’m very loyal to my city, so it has to be the Toronto Blue Jays, they’re just a great team and I think they deserve to win the series."
The Blue Jays’ appearance in the World Series is a significant achievement, marking their first since 1993. Their journey to the championship has reignited the city’s passion for baseball, with fans eagerly anticipating the series against the Dodgers, who are seeking to defend their title.
“I’m very excited to see him play in Toronto,” he said. “I hope he doesn’t go too hard on the Blue Jays,” Sasaki admitted.
