In a weekend full of MLB action and events, baseball fans will be able to enjoy the 2023 Draft, where hundreds of players will see how their dreams of playing in the league will come true.

The MLB draft was born in 1965 to set up an impartial system for teams to select young talents and provide them with a chance of joining an MLB team.

This year’s draft is considered one of the best draft classes since 2011, as there are lots of very skilled and different kinds of college players.

2023 MLB Draft: how many rounds are there?

Over the years, the number of rounds in the Draft has changed and it consists of 20 rounds since 2019. By reducing the number of rounds, the league wanted to cut costs and improve its efficiency.

Before that adjustment, the MLB Draft was 40 rounds and 1,214 players would be drafted.

At the start of the Draft, the 30 teams take turns choosing players in each round. The selection order will depend on the previous season’s rankings, with the worst teams being granted the first picks.

The first two rounds of the draft are on Sunday. Rounds 3-10 will take place on Monday, followed by rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
