The Dodgers star walked the red carpet with his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, whose low profile has only sparked more curiosity.

Who is Shohei Ohtani married to? This is the Dodgers superstar’s wife Mamiko Tanaka
Shohei Ohtani is one game away from leading the Dodgers to another World Series victory. The Japenese hitting and pitching star is looking to win his second ring in a row after beating the Yankees in 2024. Ohtani will be the starting pitcher in Game 7 against the Blue Jays and will be Dodgers lead off hitter.
In February 2024, Ohtani stunned fans when he announced that he had married a Japanese woman who was “very special” to him. From that moment, speculation swirled around the identity of the mysterious woman the Dodgers slugger had tied the knot with.
“Not only have I started a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I’ve also begun a new life with someone from my home country, Japan, who is very special to me. I wanted to let everyone know that I’m now married,” Ohtani wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
Days later, the mystery was resolved when Ohtani shared a photo on Instagram Stories showing him with basketball player Mamiko Tanaka. The image was taken during their trip to South Korea for the Seoul Series.

Who is Mamiko Tanaka?
Born on December 11, 1996, Mamiko Tanaka is a former Japanese basketball player who is now 29 years old.
Tanaka began her career playing for Waseda University before going pro in 2019 with the Fujitsu Red Wave of Japan’s Women’s Basketball League. The 5-foot-11 forward spent four seasons with the team before retiring in 2023.
In her final season, Tanaka shot 47.7% from the field and 69.9% from the free-throw line across 28 games, according to ESPN. During a press conference following the announcement of his marriage, Ohtani described Tanaka as a “normal Japanese woman.”
Since her identity as Ohtani’s wife was revealed, Tanaka has been spotted supporting him at numerous events. In addition to traveling with him to South Korea for the Dodgers’ game against the San Diego Padres, she attended the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala in May 2024. She was also seen cheering Ohtani on during the playoffs and World Series in September and October 2024 – a run that ended with a championship for the Dodgers.
