While he may not be the show stopping star that he portrays in Netflix’s Adam Sandler directed sports drama, he’s certainly playing high level basketball at the moment and now he’s got his brother alongside him as well.

Jauncho Hernangomez helps Spain to victory against the Netherlands

Though there is an added degree of fanfare whenever he steps on the court these days, Juancho Hernangomez isn’t exactly the next ‘Bo Cruz’ of the NBA. That’s not to say he’s not a decent baller. Indeed, having recently been the protagonist in ‘Hustle,’ a Netflix film in which he co-starred with director Adam Sandler, the Spanish national and Boston Celtics player, was on hand to help his country destroy the Netherlands in an 86-64 win in World Cup group stage qualifying on Saturday.

In the 24 minutes that he was on the court, Hernangomez picked up a credible 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists as a starter. Overall, the player turned movie star and back again shot 2-of-5 from the field and 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. What’s even more interesting, however, is that the reigning FIBA Basketball World Cup champions have also included his brother in their 22-player squad, as they attempt to reclaim the European title that they last won back in 2015.

Brothers Hernangomez: Willy & Juancho

Playing alongside Juancho Hernangomez in Spain’s well-balanced squad will be his older brother Willy. The current center for the New Orleans Pelicans, Willy’s inclusion in the team is actually a no brainer as he’s long been considered one of the best Spanish players out there. A fan favorite in the NBA and often cited for his locker room influence, Willy has been an integral part of Spain’s framework since the aforementioned 2015 Eurobasket tournament where he helped the team to Gold.

Of course, there will also be some other very impressive hoopsters alongside the brothers such as the 20-year-old Usman Garuba who made his debut at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo last summer. There’s also Rudy Fernandez and Sergio Llull who have both enjoyed significant success with the national side. Additionally, there is one new face with Lorenzo Brown being included and let’s not forget 2022′s FIBA U20 European Championship MVP, Juan Nunez who gets a fitting spot on the roster after helping his country to a gold.
