The Boston Celtics have reached the NBA finals for the first time in 12 years and they are working towards having the whole roster at the ready when they go up against the Golden State Warriors.

They are looking at two players in particular- starting center Robert Williams and point guard Marcus Smart, who were both listed as questionable before Game 7 against the Miami Heat though eventually thought to be healthy enough to play.

Robert Williams ‘day-to-day’ for Celtics

Williams has been bothered by a knee problem during the playoffs. He underwent surgery in late March to fix a torn meniscus, and also sustained a bone bruise.

Celtics head coach Ime Udoka spoke at length about the big man, saying he is hopeful about his health as they prepare for Game 1. He however stated that at the moment, Williams is not yet 100% in the clear.

“(He’s) getting looked at today, will continue to get his treatment and his rehab in order to get swelling down and some of the pain and mobility back. It’s going to. Be an ongoing thing. He’s day-to-day throughout the playoffs.”.

Udoka is confident that the days off before the Finals and the gaps between games will help Williams recover from his injuries.

Marcus Smart: Cleared for action

The coach also spoke on Smart, who was sidelined for two games in their conference finals series with the Heat. He was out for Games. 1 and 4 due to foot injuries, but Udoka says the league’s current Defensive Player of the Year is good to go.

There’s no concern about that. The swelling is what it is and that’ll dissipate as time goes by.”

The Celtics face the Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA finals at Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday, June 2. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
