Update:

With the NBA Finals now over - the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in Games 7, in case you somehow missed it - attention now turns to the 2025 NBA Draft in the world of basketball. And we don’t have to wait long to have our appetite whetted for next season, with franchises getting ready to (further) reshape their rosters with new talent.

When and where is the 2025 NBA Draft?

The 2025 NBA Draft will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26.

The event will get underway on Wednesday, June 25 at 8pm ET.

How to watch the 2025 NBA Draft

The upcoming draft will be broadcast on both ESPN and ABC, and can also be streamed on NBA Pass.

How is the NBA Draft order decided?

The order is determined by a combination of the NBA Draft Lottery and the reserve order of regular season records (win percentages) from the previous season.

The lottery, won this year by the Dallas Mavericks, determines the first four picks. The team with the worst regular season record in 2024/25, the Utah Jazz, therefore has the fifth pick, with the franchise with the second worst record, the Washington Wizards, going next (and so on).

Matters are then complicated significantly by picks which have been traded between franchises as part of other deals. As a result, the Thunder, the best team in the regular season, would normally have picked 30th in the first round, but will actually have the 15th selection.

First pickers and projected first picks

As a result of the draft lottery, the Mavericks are in pole position to scoop the top player from the 2025 NBA Draft. Dallas is expected to select Duke forward Cooper Flagg, who put together one of the best seasons in college basketball history.

Rutgers guard Dylan Harper is the standout No. 2 pick and could therefore end up with the Spurs, unless San Antonio decide to get creative.

The Philadelphia 76ers, followed by the Charlotte Hornets, were the other two franchises that benefited from the lottery, with Bahamian shooting guard VJ Edgecombe, Ace Bailey, also of Rutgers, Duke’s Kon Knueppel and Texas Longhorn shooting guard Tre Johnson expected to be snapped up in the first few picks.
