Draymond Green’s suspension: Has any other player ever been suspended indefinitely by the NBA?

Problems are arising for the Golden State Warriors. Steve Kerr’s team has been struggling this season and they are only sitting 11th in the Western Conference standings.

However, things can get worse and that’s exactly what happened to the seven-time NBA champions. One of their main and best defensive players, Draymond Green, won’t be able to help the team in the next games, as he got suspended after hitting Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in their last game.

Green, who received a Flagrant 2 foul and ejection, was suspended indefinitely by the NBA and the Warriors lost their game vs. Phoenix (119-116).

The Michigan native was ejected for the 18th time in his career, the most among active NBA players. It’s already Green’s second suspension this season.

Green’s suspension: he’s not the only one

After the aggression, the NBA announced the player would be suspended immediately.

“He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play,” the league said.

“This outcome takes into account Green’s repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts”, the league added.

Green and Nurkić were battling for position when the Warriors forward seemed to lose his balance, but then he smacked Nurkić in the face.

The incident has gone down in the NBA history books, as there’s little precedent for an indefinite suspension. However, Green is not the only player that has received such a punishment for his behavior.

In 2010, the Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely by the then-commissioner David Stern for bringing firearms into the team locker room.

After that incident, Stern stated that Arenas couldn’t be taking part in the team for security reasons.

“His ongoing conduct ... led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game”, he said.

The player would finally be suspended for 50 games.
