The FIBA World Cup is the most prestigious international basketball tournament, outside the Olympic Games, with 32 teams from all over the world gathering together to play against each other with a common objective, go as far as possible in the event and try to conquer the title.

Team USA was favored to end up winning the trophy, despite not having any NBA superstars like they have had in past editions. They lost in semifinals to Germany, who play Serbia in the final.

FIBA World Cup: how much will the champs earn?

Winning the World Cup is a feat for any national team and something that will remain in the history books forever.

The USA have won it five times, while nations like Spain, Brazil, or the Soviet Union have won the title in the past too, there are some other squads that will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time.

The Dominican Republic was one of the standout teams in the tournament, led by the Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns. The Caribbean side topped the Group A standings, winning all of their three games.

But besides the honor of winning such an important competition, how much will the winners take home? The champs will earn $2.5 million, while the runners-up will earn $1.5 million.

The third and fourth-best teams will get $1.2 million, while the 17th-32th placed teams will be awarded $200K each.
