Kyrie Irving was going to be the one to take the keys to the car in Dallas after the Luka Doncic trade, but he might be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Update:

The hits keep on coming for the Dallas Mavericks, and not in a good way. First they traded away Luka Doncic, and saw their fan base turn on them. Then Anthony Davis goes down with an injury in his debut. Now it’s Kyrie Irving who has been struck down with by injury, and could be looking at a long stint on the sidelines as the Mavs make a postseason push.

Irving hits both FTs before being helped off court

Early in the Mavs game against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, Irving took an awkward shot in which he went knee to knee with a Kings player, and appeared to hyperextend the other knee as he fell to the ground.

Irving stayed down on the floor, writhing in pain before getting up and heading to the free throw line with the assistance of Anthony Davis who was in street clothes. Irving went to the line, knocked both FTs down but then got helped off the floor and didn’t return to the game.

The Mavs went on to lose the game, but the bigger picture for Dallas fans is the ever growing list of stars that have been sidelined for long spells, and now it seems like Kyrie is going to be added to the list.

Irving the latest injury bug victim

Anthony Davis is still sideline with an abductor injury that will keep him out for a couple more week. Daniel Gafford and Derrick Lively are also out with lengthy injuries, and now with Kyrie being added to that list the Mavs might be in jeopardy of missing the Play-In.

Dallas came into the night in 10th in the West, clinging on to the final Play-In spot. They will be trying to hold off the Phoenix Suns who are currently four games back of the Mavs.

The initial word out of Dallas is a knee sprain, but the Mavs will get a better idea of the extent of the injury and the projected time Irving is set to miss in the coming days.
