As we head into the final week of the NBA’s buyout market, there are likely to be a few high-profile names on the move when the hammer comes down. The question is, who will they be and what teams will they be playing for in the near future? Let’s find out together.

The NBA’s buyout market is coming to a close

As you will likely know by now, the NBA trade deadline has passed which means we are now entering what is known as buyout season. That’s to say, in the next few weeks, we will be seeing a number of big-name players, specifically those on expiring contracts, attempting to negotiate an early release from their respective teams. This of course, is based on said players being able to clear waivers. Once that occurs, you can expect to see some of the top teams in the league lining up to acquire them. To be clear, the deadline by which players must be waived in order to retain playoff eligibility, is March 1st.

What players will we see in the buyout market?

As we saw with Russell Westbrook’s move to the Clippers via a trade to the Jazz, there is most definitely some major talent available in the buyout market. With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the other household names that could soon be on the move as crunch time approaches.

John Wall

Having been traded by the Clippers to the Rockets, you might think that’s the end of it, but with reports confirming that Wall is set to be waived in Houston, we’ve now got a situation where there are a number of teams who could benefit from the gritty veteran’s services. Keep an eye on the Lakers, Bucks, Mavericks and Sixers, as all of them could be good fits for him and moreover are all in need of such a player.

Will Barton

Though it’s still puzzling, Will Barton has found himself outside of the Wizard’s rotation for more than a month now. A seasoned player and one who’s skill set can’t be questioned; Barton now seems all but certain to hit the buyout market. Indeed, having made it clear that he wants out of Washington, it’s understood that the Bucks, Cavaliers, Mavericks and Celtics are all on the alert.

Juan Toscano-Anderson

The former Lakers player was moved on primarily for financial reasons, which makes him a prime target in the buyout market. While no suitors have been directly mentioned, it won’t be surprising if we see the Jazz decide to put him in the show window, given that the 29-year-old former NBA champion definitely has market value.

Dewayne Dedmon

At this point, it seems almost a certainty that Dedmon will be bought out after being dealt to the Spurs. Clearly a financially motivated move for the Heat and the Spurs, who absorbed him with their cap space solely for the future second-round pick attached, the big man will definitely attract the attention of teams who are in need of such a presence.

Terrence Ross

After the Magic declined to trade him, Terrence Ross has got to be considered a sure bet to be bought out in the coming days. Indeed, there are a number of teams such as the Lakers, Mavericks, Nuggets and Bucks who are in need of backcourt help, however, there are others. That’s to say, that Ross is in fact a player who can help with that, so expect to see moves being made.
