Will Bronny James play with the Lakers in the NBA California Classic Summer League?
Lebron James’ son was taken with the No. 55 overall pick by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft and fans want to see him in action this summer.
He wasn’t among the first picks in the NBA Draft 2024, but he’s one of the most charismatic and hyped prospects. There’s a lot of expectation surrounding Bronny James, as he will make his NBA debut shortly and will play alongside his father Lebron James defending the Los Angeles Lakers’s jersey next campaign, the first time in the league’s history that both father and son will compete on the same team in the NBA.
The No. 55 overall pick signed a four-year deal contract worth $7.9 million, containing a team option in the fourth season. Players who are selected in the second round usually don’t get any guaranteed contracts, but the Lakers believe Bronny has lots of potential and will eventually become one of the team’s biggest stars.
“Everything has been so surreal. Just trying to take it all in by the days. Extremely grateful for everything that JJ [Redick] and Rob [Pelinka] have given to me. I’ve just been extremely excited to get to work”, James said in his introductory press conference on Tuesday.
“I never really had a thought of me going to play with my dad, but that’s always there to take part of. It wasn’t a main focus of mine”, he added.
Will Bronny play in the NBA California Classic Summer League with the Lakers?
After the celebration of the NBA Draft, it’s time for all the teams to start their summer preparations to see their prospects in action.
Three Summer League events will be played in the upcoming days: the California Classic from July 6-10, the Salt Lake City Summer League from July 8-10, and the Las Vegas Summer League, with all 30 teams from July 12-22.
The Lakers will play games in the California Classic and the Las Vegas Summer League this year. The good news for the 17-time NBA champions’ fans is that the rookie will participate in both events.
The team and Bronny James will first take part in the California Classic, where and play three exhibition matches against the Sacramento Kings, the Golden State Warriors, and the Miami Heat at Chase Center.
After that, the player and the Lakers will feature in the Las Vegas Summer League along with the rest of the NBA sides. Bronny will then have the chance to play against the Histon Rockets, the NBA champions Boston Celtics, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
