Steve Sarkisian has had quite the impact on the Texas Longhorns since becoming their head coach in 2021, which is reflected in how his salary has evolved.

When the 50-year-old joined the program four years ago, he signed a contract for six years worth $34.2 million in total. As part of that initial deal, he would have earned $5.8 million in the 2024 season, which is a little over half of his actual salary following the extension he penned in 2023.

The new contract, of course, came as a result of the Longhorns’ success on the field. Unranked in the AP Poll at the start of Sarkisian’s second year, they moved up to #25 at the end of 2022, started 2023 at #11 and finished it as #3.

That final climb came as a result of Texas winning the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2009, thanks to a 12-2 record.

Steve Sarkisian’s current Texas Longhorns: length and earnings

Following that triumph, Sarkisian penned a contract extension through 2030 that included a significant pay rise. He will earn $100,000 extra each year, and almost double the amount for the 2024 season than he would have done under his previous deal.

2024: $10.3 million

2025: $10.4 million

2026: $10.5 million

2027: $10.6 million

2028: $10.7 million

2029: $10.8 million

2030: $10.9 million

These figures make Sarkisian one of the highest-paid college football coaches and there could be more coming his way.

Sarkisian’s College Football Playoff bonuses

According to College Football Network, the former quarterback has pocketed $750,000 for taking the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Ohio State Buckeyes. However, that number will rise to $1 million if they reach the CFP National Championship Game and to $1.25 million if they defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the ultimate college football bowl game on January 20.
