During the 2012 NCAA women’s basketball tournament, a sophomore guard, Courtney Moses, set a record for nine three-point baskets. She also scored 29 points, which was her career high, and helped the Purdue Boilermakers beat South Dakota State 83-68 in a first-round game held in West Lafayette, Indiana. Despite the Jackrabbit’s hard-charging efforts, Moses managed to deliver every time her team needed a basket. She was successful in nine of her 14 attempts from long range.

Interestingly, Moses made only 34 out of 121 three-pointers that season, and she scored 88 out of 253 three-pointers over the previous two seasons. Her shooting accuracy improved just in time to lead Purdue (25-8) into the second round of the NCAA tournament, which was held on their home court. Unfortunately, Purdue’s postseason ended in the NCAA second round, where they lost to South Carolina 72-61.

Caitlin Clark walking the Moses path

Iowa’s Caitlin Clark performed exceptionally during Monday night’s Elite Eight game against LSU. She hit nine 3-pointers, tying a record set by Purdue’s Courtney Moses in 2012. Clark made her ninth 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, most of which came from beyond the arc.

With her first 3-pointer in the match, Clark surpassed Diana Taurasi’s record for career 3-pointers in the NCAA Tournament. And when she hit her seventh 3-pointer, she also broke Taylor Robertson’s record for the most 3-pointers in a career among NCAA Division I players. Clark’s ninth 3-pointer took her tally to 540.

She attempted 20 shots from distance and converted 9 of them to tie the record. Overall, it was a remarkable display of shooting from Clark and a win for Iowa State, which continues its march to the Final Four. Her total of 41 points scored during the game meant she had the 9th-best-ever scoring performance in NCAA women’s basketball.
