After injury-hit 2024, Christian McCaffrey is doing everything to stay healthy in 2025
The running back played only four games in 2024, which contributed to the San Francisco 49ers’ dismal regular-season performance.

After an injury-riddled 2024 campaign, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is doing everything in his power to bounce back and stay on the field in 2025.
How McCaffrey’s plans to be fit for whole 2025 NFL season
The All-Pro back was limited to just four games last season due to a string of injuries, including issues with his knee and Achilles. Determined to avoid a repeat, McCaffrey has dedicated his entire offseason to rehabbing, rebuilding, and preparing his body for the long haul.
“I feel great,” McCaffrey told reporters on the second day of the 49ers’ minicamp. “This offseason, I’ve really focused on building a strong foundation right from the start. A lot of it has been rehab and preventative work, just making sure I put myself in a position where I don’t miss a single practice. I want to play football again, stay healthy, and be available every day.”

Stats show McCaffrey’s importance to the 49ers
Nicknamed “Run CMC,” McCaffrey started all four games he appeared in last year, racking up 202 rushing yards on 50 carries. He also caught 15 of 19 targets for 146 receiving yards. Despite the limited action, he still managed to showcase his versatility - though he didn’t reach the end zone and lost one fumble.
McCaffrey, who turned 29 earlier this month, has appeared in 95 regular-season games over eight years in the league. However, injuries have limited him to seven or fewer games in three separate seasons - a reality that’s prompted him to rethink his training and recovery strategies as he gets older.
“A lot of people say you need to do less as you age, and I think there’s some truth to that - but there’s also a middle ground,” McCaffrey said. “For me, it’s about constantly evaluating how your body feels and what it needs. If you stick to the plan and you’re feeling good, just keep assessing where you’re at and trust the offseason process.”
Offensive Player of the Year
The last time McCaffrey was fully healthy, in 2023, he was arguably the most dynamic offensive player in football. He led the NFL with 2,023 total yards from scrimmage and 21 touchdowns, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors and finishing third in MVP voting.
As the 49ers gear up for another Super Bowl push, McCaffrey’s health will be crucial - not just to their offense, but to the entire outlook of their season. And if his offseason approach is any indication, he’s determined to deliver.
