The 26-year-old was forced off the field just minutes into the Divisional round game against the Washington Commanders.

The Detroit Lions suffered a major injury setback within minutes of their Divisional round match-up with the Washington Commanders.

Cornerback Amik Robertson took a heavy hit on one of the first plays of the game and remained down on the turf. He got to his feet and walked to the sideline but quickly headed down the tunnel to get further treatment.

His status was soon updated to ‘questionable to return’ due to an elbow injury but footage of the incident appeared to show that his arm was broken. By the start of the second half Roberton’s status had been changed to ‘OUT’.

Robertson joined the Lions for the 2024 season after four years with the Las Vegas Raiders. He featured in all 17 regular season games for Detroit this year, recording a career-best 40 solo tackles.

He was particularly impressive in the regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month, minimising the threat of wideout Justin Jefferson. Speaking ahead of the Commanders game Robertson said that he was relishing the challenge in the Divisional round.

“When I’m out there, I’m a highly competitive guy and I’m a guy that’s not gonna bow down,” Robertson explained. “I know the secondary and those guys aren’t either, because at the end of the day, we’re in that one percent too that’s in the league. It’s gonna be a fun game, and it’s gonna be highly competitive.”

The Detroit Lions roared to a 15-2 record in the regular season, locking up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. That ensured that they received a bye for the Wild Card round and an extra week of rest for the team. They will be the favourites to emerge from the Commanders match-up but the loss of Robertson will be a concern.
