Does Bad Bunny have a favorite NFL team? The sports loyalty of the Super Bowl headliner

This Sunday, February 8, will mark a special day for both sports and music. The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots will meet again in Super Bowl LX, a rematch that recalls their 2015 showdown, while millions of viewers eagerly await the halftime show headlined by Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny. His performance is expected to surpass the audience numbers achieved by Kendrick Lamar, whose show drew 133.5 million viewers.

Super Bowl LX will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. CT, 3:30 p.m. PT). Eleven years after their last encounter, attention is not only focused on the Vince Lombardi Trophy but also on Bad Bunny, whose prominent role at halftime has sparked curiosity about his sporting loyalties.

Bad Bunny, days before his performance: “I love sports”

The Puerto Rican singer said he “loves mixing music and sports” during the pre–Super Bowl press conference. “I grew up watching sports… playing them,” he said. “But I love sports. In fact, it’s one of my favorite combinations – sports and music. It’s something I’m truly passionate about.”

Although he has not publicly named a favorite team for the game, he has shown interest in several sports and franchises, particularly basketball. In an interview, he acknowledged that he follows the sport closely and is a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition, in 2021 he became a co-owner of the Puerto Rican basketball team Cangrejos de Santurce.

He is also a big baseball fan and has been spotted at Major League Baseball games. At one matchup between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, he was seen wearing a Mets cap.

As for soccer, in 2024 the Puerto Rican artist shared on social media news of his compatriot Jeremy de León’s signing with Real Madrid. That post fueled speculation about whether Bad Bunny supports the Spanish club. Nothing confirmed though.
