Since making his NFL debut in 2017, Patrick Mahomes has put himself in the conversation when it comes to the league’s greatest ever quarterback. Even so, football “might not” even be the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s best sport.

In the run-up to Super Bowl LIX, in which the Chiefs are aiming to become the first team in history to ‘three-peat’ against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mahomes appeared in a video on Kansas City’s social media channels in which he was asked a series of mostly non-football questions.

Luka Doncic: still Mahomes favorite NBA star?

On the very day that joined the Los Angeles Lakers from the Dallas MavericksLuka Doncic, who Mahomes is fan of, the NFL star named the Slovenian as his favorite NBA player.

We discovered the 29-year-old is also keen on Call of Duty, cookies and cream, and Alex Rodríguez, although arguably the most interesting response was related to his hobbies outside of football.

Patrick Mahomes' ping-pong prowess

“Obviously golf is one, but one that people don’t know about is that I’m a great ping-pong player”.

Mahomes’ love of golf is well publicized, and his table tennis prowess has also previously been spoken of. Hunter Rittiman, the Chiefs star’s former teammate and roommate at Texas Tech, told The Athletic in 2021 that it “might be” his best sport.

Given Mahomes is a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP and the man with the most lucrative contract in NFL history, we can only imagine how capable he is with a ping-pong paddle in his hand.

Mahomes vs McLovin'

Or do we? Appearing on The Dan Patrick Show while still at college in 2017, Mahomes was filmed playing ping-pong with Andrew “McLovin'” Perloff.

To the untrained eye, the quarterback doesn’t necessarily look like a world-beater, although maybe he was taking it easy on McLovin'. Watch the clip above to judge for yourself.

In any case, football hasn’t worked out too badly for him, even if it isn’t his best sport.
