NFL security chief makes bold Super Bowl claim
New Orleans will host Super Bowl LIX, just a month after a horrific terrorist attack on New Year’s Day.

The eyes of the sporting world will be on New Orleans next weekend for Super Bowl LIX, little over a month after a shocking terrorist attack struck the city.
On New Year’s Day a truck ploughed into crowds in the city centre, eventually killing 15 people and injuries many more. The incident has forced officials to rethink security plans for the game, and the events around it, but the NFL’s chief security officer has insisted that Ceasars Superdome will be fully protected.
“I’m confident the safest place this weekend will be under the security umbrella we have in place around [the Superdome],” Cathy L. Lanier explained at the Super Bowl kickoff news conference on Monday. “We have reviewed, and re-reviewed, all the events of January 1.”
Department of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem echoed those remarks, saying: “The world is a much more dangerous place. But right now, we are safe here in the homeland.”
This is the 11th time that New Orleans will have hosted the Super Bowl and security has been upped in response to last month’s events. With more than 100,000 visitors expected to head to the city security will be “more visible,” Lanier said last month.
“I think the most important thing is, very clear and unequivocal, saying without hesitation that we are really confident in our security plan going into the Super Bowl,” she said.
“I think the biggest thing that you’ll see that’s different following the attacks is just a lot more visible law enforcement presence,” Lanier continued. “We are still prepared to make new modifications should something change between now and the Super Bowl. That’s kind of our job is to be flexible and make changes, as needed.”
