It’s not necessarily the name you expect leading the MVP odds heading into the new NFL season.

Not Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes: this is the bookies’ favorite to win NFL MVP for the 2025 season

Many of you reading this – at least before seeing the title – may have expected Josh Allen to be the early favorite. After all, the Buffalo Bills quarterback finally got his hands on an MVP trophy last season, after years of falling just short. His 2024 campaign was packed with big throws, big wins, and just enough wow-factor to convince voters he was the guy.
What odds for Allen, Mahomes and Burrow?
Allen enters this season with +600 odds to repeat – no easy feat, given no one’s done it since Aaron Rodgers in 2021. He’s joined at the top of the betting boards by Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes, sitting at +650 and +700 respectively, depending on the sportsbook.
Let me know when “Lamar Jackson”, “Josh Allen”, or “Jalen Hurts” become their franchise’s all-time postseason rushing leader… 👀

Until then, I’ll keep backing the real dual-threat king — Patrick Mahomes. 🐐🏃♂️💨 pic.twitter.com/ppVgXkGYgU
Mahomes’ case is always strong, but his MVP stock dipped slightly last year thanks to a statistically flat season and a receiver room that couldn’t catch a cold. Burrow, meanwhile, is drawing plenty of sharp money thanks to his 4,900-yard, 43-touchdown stat line from last season. He currently leads all players in betting handle and ticket percentage at BetMGM.
There’s also a push behind Jayden Daniels. The second-year Commanders QB is +850 after a monster rookie season that included 25 touchdown passes and nearly 900 yards rushing. He’s an exciting longshot and then, if you’re really looking for a dark horse, you have Brock Purdy.
WOULD THE #EAGLES HAVE WON A SUPER BOWL WITH BROCK PURDY AS THEIR QUARTERBACK LAST SEASON…?

Who is NFL 2025 MVP favorite?
So who’s ahead of all of them? Lamar Jackson, that’s who.
The Ravens quarterback is the early +550 favorite, despite being snubbed last year after a historically efficient season: 4,172 passing yards, 41 TDs, just 4 INTs, and 915 yards on the ground. With Baltimore tipped as a Super Bowl contender and Jackson still playing with a chip on his shoulder, the oddsmakers aren’t taking any chances this time.
.@BarstoolGruden joined The Lounge after spending two days with the Ravens during OTAs. He talked about what makes Lamar Jackson so special, how he’s renaming the Gruden Grinder award after Pat Ricard and more.
