Saquon Barkley wants more money spent after new record contract
The Super Bowl winner wants more money spent on running backs in the NFL.

Fresh off his Super Bowl win over the Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley signed a new deal with his side, putting pen to paper on a two-year $41 million deal that he hopes will see a new generation of running backs “get paid” in the same way.
Speaking to Zach Berman of PHLY, Barkey said that “every other position, the value increases each year. So for Bijan (Robinson) and (Jahmyr) Gibbs, (Buffalo’s James) Cook − all those guys who are up and able to get paid, I hope they beat it.

Barkley’s bumper contract
“That’s how I look at it. I don’t care, ‘Is this guy going to be paid more than me?’ That’s not what this sport is about. It’s putting the position up, and all those guys who are underneath me right now, when there’s a time, they beat it and max it out even more. And in 5 and 10 years, all those guys who are playing in high school and college right now. That’s the goal. It’s happening for every other position. I think it should happen for our position, too“, he concluded.
After signing the new contract which keeps Barkley with the Eagles through the 2028 season, he becomes the first running back to sign a deal worth an average annual value of more than $20 million and moves ahead of Christian McCaffrey‘s $19-million-per-year deal he signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Barkey’s salary cap hits $6.6 million in 2025 and $9.9 million in 2026, shooting up drastically in 2029, when it goes to $31 million.

In the past season, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards, becoming only the ninth running back in NFL history to reach 2,000 yards.
