The 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs for the NFL title - a second Super Bowl appearance in four years for the Niners, who staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Lions in the NFC Championship Game. Much of that was thanks to Brock Purdy’s sensational second half performance. The young QB ended with 267 yards passing (almost half of that amount in the third quarter) and 48 more rushing; his 315 combined yards passing and rushing was the most ever by a 49ers QB in a conference title game win. But salaries are linked not on performance but the contracts that were signed and so who negotiated better deals obviously earn more.

49ers top earners

In spite of his heroics, Brock comes way down the list when it comes to the 49ers payroll. Left Tackle Trent Williams is the top earner within the roster. In March 2021, Williams signed a six-year contract worth $138.06 million with $55.1 million guaranteed. In 2024, the 35-year-old will take home a base salary of $20.05 million, which he can top up with a number of add-ons including a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $31,524,638 and a dead cap value of $29.898 million. That makes him not just San Francisco’s top earner but also the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history, ahead of the previous record holder, Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil and the Packers’ David Bakhtiari.

  5. George Kittle $13,400,000 ($21,927,151)

San Francisco lowest earners: base salary with cap hit in brackets

  4. Ronnie Bell $915,000 ($934,444)

Just behind Williams is Deebo Samuel who has a base salary of $20.972 million with a cap hit of $28,633,755. He is in the final year of a three-year contract worth - $58,100,000 of that, guaranteed.

Arik Armstead is next. He signed a five-year contract for $85 million in March 2020 - $34.15 million of which is guaranteed. Supplementing his base salary of $17,410,000 with in per game and workout bonuses.

Much further down the pay scale is Brock Purdy, who ranked 34th. The 24-year-old’s basic annual salary is just $985,000 which he topped up with a $19,252 signing bonus. The young quarterback is among the lowest earners on the 49ers roster - seven players earn less, but more or less similar figures. At the bottom of the pay ladder are lineback Oren Burks and Tashaun Gipson who will earn $819,000 and $800,000 respectively this year.
