When did the Detroit Lions last win 10 games in a row in an NFL season?
The Lions moved to 11-1 for the 2024 season by beating the Chicago Bears in a Thanksgiving Day match-up at Ford Field.
The Detroit Lions broke one franchise record and equalled another on Thursday, as Dan Campbell’s men survived a fourth-quarter fightback to beat the Chicago Bears in a Thanksgiving Day clash at Ford Field.
Lions make history with Bears beating
With Jared Goff throwing for two touchdowns, the Lions led the Bears 23-7 heading into the final quarter in Detroit, only to concede 13 unanswered points as Chicago took the Week 13 game to the wire.
Having held out for a 23-20 win, the Lions moved to 11-1 for the 2024 season - the franchise’s best ever start to an NFL campaign.
What’s more, the victory was Detroit’s 10th in a row; the Michiganders have not failed to win since being beaten by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 15, in Week 2. The only other occasion on which the Lions have won 10 games in a row in a single season came back in 1934.
“Crazy ending there”
Speaking post-match, Goff - who was named Madden Thanksgiving MVP - hailed an “awesome” win as Detroit savoured a first Thanksgiving Day victory for the current iteration of the Lions team.
“It was a crazy ending there, and we fought hard, we fought to the end,” Goff told CBS. “My first win on Thanksgiving, all of our first win on Thanksgiving, it’s big. This is one of those things we had to check off the list. We hadn’t done it yet.”
Before today, the Lions had lost seven Thanksgiving games in a row, last winning on the holiday back in 2016.
Detroit the top team in NFC
Having moved to 11-1, the Lions have consolidated their position at the top of the NFC North division and as the NFC’s No. 1 playoffs seed as things stand.
A franchise which, until 2023, had not won a postseason game since 1991, Detroit are now aiming to improve on last year’s run to the NFC Championship Game, where they were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers.
