Cooper Rush is again set to deputize for the injured Dak Prescott when the Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Giants on Thanksgiving (today, Thursday, November 28), four days after helping his team turn around their fortunes.

Promoted to starting quarterback in the absence of Prescott, who is out for the season with a torn hamstring, Rush threw for just 45 yards and no touchdowns in the 34-6 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in week 10. Despite a much improved personal performance in week 11 against the Houston Texans, in which he threw for 345 yards, a touchdown and an interception, that wasn’t enough to stop the Cowboys from slumping to a 34-10 loss.

However, Rush helped end a run of five consecutive defeats against the Commanders on Sunday, throwing for 247 yards and two touchdowns. As a result, Dallas haven’t given up all hope of reaching the playoffs, although it does look highly unlikely.

Who is Cooper Rush?

Born on November 21, 1993, Rush went undrafted in 2017, having spent his college career with the Central Michigan Chippewas. A month after the Draft, however, he found a home with the Cowboys as a free agent. Aside from a short stint with the New York Giants in 2020, the 31-year-old has been a Dallas player ever since.

Over the course of his NFL career, Rush has played in 33 NFL games, starting nine of them, with a 6-3 record. Overall, he has thrown for 2,432 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions, with a passer rating of 81.9.

What is Rush’s contract with the Cowboys?

In terms of his contract, Rush is currently on a two-year Cowboys deal worth $5,000,000. For the 2024 season, his base salary is $2,250,000, with a signing bonus of $1,250,000 and a guaranteed amount of $2,750,000.

His cap hit for 2024 stands at $2,875,000. Rush will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, giving him the opportunity to explore new possibilities in the NFL.

Giants vs Cowboys: start time, how to watch

The NFL Week 13 Thanksgiving clash between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys takes place today, Thursday, November 28, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT.

Viewers in the United States can watch the game live on FOX, while you can also stream it on fuboTV, which offers a free trial.

While the Cowboys, despite a 4-7 record, still have a glimmer of postseason hope, it’s realistically all over already for the Giants, who are 2-9 after losing six games in a row.
