Indianapolis Colts cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is under investigation by the NFL for potential violations of the league’s gambling policy. The 2020 sixth-round draft pick has been a notable player for the Colts since his arrival.

Who is Isaiah Rodgers?

During his college football career at UMass, Rodgers showcased his skills and was recognized for his exceptional performance. He earned a spot on Pro Football Focus’ First-team All-American Team as a senior cornerback. Additionally, Rodgers demonstrated his versatility as a kick returner, accumulating an impressive 1,295 yards on 53 kickoffs. Defensively, he made 42 tackles, including four interceptions and ten passes defended. Rodgers also contributed to the team with one forced fumble and fumble recovery.

Rodgers’ professional journey began when the Indianapolis Colts selected him with the 211th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Colts acquired the pick through a trade with the New York Jets involving Quincy Wilson. In his rookie season, Rodgers made an immediate impact, scoring his first career touchdown on a remarkable 101-yard kick return during a Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Since joining the NFL, Isaiah Rodgers has excelled as a cornerback and kick returner for the Indianapolis Colts. He’s proven his defensive prowess with 89 tackles, 10 pass deflections, 3 interceptions, and one forced fumble. He’s also contributed 1,583 kick return yards, showcasing his ability to gain valuable field positions for his team.

Rodgers has also found the end zone once, with a touchdown.

The NFL investigation

The recent inquiry by the NFL regarding Isaiah Rodgers has prompted the Colts to accept the investigation. Although the team did not explicitly mention Rodgers in their statement, they confirmed their awareness of the situation and opted not to provide further comments.

Responding to the situation, Rodgers took to Twitter on Monday night to accept responsibility for his actions. Expressing remorse, he admitted to making mistakes and expressed his commitment to rectify the situation. Rodgers acknowledged the disappointment he has caused to the Colts organization, his coaches, teammates, and the people he cares about. He also emphasized his dedication to the NFL, stating that he deeply values the honor of playing in the league. Apologizing for the circumstances, Rodgers assured that he would work diligently to learn from his errors and make amends.

It is worth noting that Isaiah Rodgers’ case is not an isolated incident in the NFL this season. In April, the league suspended five players for violating its gambling policy, four of whom were from the Detroit Lions. Quintez Cephus, C.J. Moore, and Stanley Berryhill received varying suspensions from an NFL facility for betting on non-NFL games. Meanwhile, Jameson Williams and Shaka Toney faced indefinite suspensions for their involvement in betting on NFL games. Detroit later released Cephus, Moore, and Berryhill in light of their actions.
