Brits give ‘Canelo’ Alvarez a new nickname
Due to the Mexican’s undefeated record against fighters from the United Kingdom, the champion was given a curious new nickname.

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has faced opponents from various nationalities throughout his career, but British boxers stand out in his record. He has fought and defeated eight of them—most recently John Ryder.
‘Canelo’ remains undefeated against British fighters, which has earned him a new nickname in the UK: the “Brit Basher.” In an interview with The Sun, the Mexican champion joked about the moniker.
“I’m sorry to say it, but I’ll keep doing it if someone pays me!” Álvarez quipped when asked about his series of knockouts—and technical knockouts—against British opponents.
Álvarez wants to fight in the UK
One of Canelo’s long-held goals is to fight in the United Kingdom. Thanks to his current deal with Turki Alalshikh, that dream might soon come true. The contract includes four fights, the first of which will be held in Saudi Arabia against William Scull.
“I don’t know who I’ll face there, but I’ve always dreamed of fighting in the UK. Without a doubt, it would be crazy to go there and fight in front of everyone. Honestly, I’d love it,” said the Mexican superstar.

Under his agreement with Alalshikh, Álvarez is set for four fights—two in Las Vegas, one in Saudi Arabia, and potentially another in a yet-to-be-determined country next year. For now, a bout is already scheduled in the United States, where he is expected to face Terence Crawford, pending an official announcement.
