Djokovic hits 70 major titles: how he compares to Nadal, Federer, Sampras, Agassi...

After winning his 40th Masters 1,000, the Serbian steps further ahead of his rivals, many of whom will never have the chance to play again.

After winning his 40th Masters 1,000, the Serbian steps further ahead of his rivals, many of whom will never have the chance to play again.

With his triumph in the Paris Bercy final against Grigor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic secured his seventh trophy at the French tournament, his 40th Masters 1,000 title, and the 97th of his career. In doing so, he further extended his dominance in the historical rivalry that persists within the renowned Big Three, which includes Rafa Nadal, who intends to return to competition in 2024, and the retired Roger Federer.

When considering Grand Slams, ATP Finals, individual Olympic Games, and Masters 1,000 events, the Serbian has now amassed 70 titles, 11 more than the Spanish contender (59), and 16 above the Swiss maestro (54). Djokovic stands as the leader in Grand Slams (24), ATP Finals (equally shared with Federer at six), and Masters (40), with the Olympic gold medal being the sole missing piece in his collection. Nadal’s title distribution encompasses 22 Grand Slams, one Olympic gold, and 36 Masters, while Federer’s achievements consist of 20 Grand Slams, six ATP Finals, and 28 Masters titles, with an Olympic victory eluding him.

Djokovic, who clinched his third Roland Garros title in June last year, completed the Roland Garros/Paris-Bercy double in the same season for the second time in his career, having previously achieved this feat in 2021. The only other player to have accomplished this double was Andre Agassi, who emerged as the champion of both tournaments in 1999.

According to data from the ATP, Djokovic has won a major title for every 3.1 tournaments played (70/217). Only three other players have achieved a superior rate of winning a major title for every five events played: Nadal (1/3.5), Federer (1/4.4), and Pete Sampras (1/4.9). Additionally, Djokovic has secured multiple Masters 1,000 titles in 12 seasons throughout his illustrious career.
