Update:

Donald Trump’s proposal to hold a UFC championship bout at the White House seemingly has (former) mixed martial arts stars on red alert, with Jon Jones following Conor McGregor in teasing a return to the sport after the U.S. President’s claim.

“Each of our national parks and historic landmarks will be hosting celebrations to mark the 250th. I think we’ll have a UFC fight. I’m thinking on the White House grounds - we have a lot of land - and Dana will make it great with a championship fight,” said Trump, a longtime friend of UFC president Dana White’s.

With the help of artificial intelligence, McGregor took to social media to hint at a match-up with Michael Chandler, having earlier tweeted: “Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in!

Jon Jones make huge comeback revelation

Hours later, Jones seemingly showed his interest in being involved, all the while making a huge revelation following his retirement from MMA just two weeks ago.

“Fighting at the White House?” read Jones’ first tweet, the accompanying eyes emoji immediately suggesting he regretted the timing of his retirement. And he went on to confirm as much in a second post less than 30 minutes later: “Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.”

Did Trump just lure Jones out of retirement? Was he already contemplating it anyway? Or are we all reading too much into a bit of social media fun?
