One of the most historic teams in college basketball, and a west coast power house have signed on to a home-and-home series over the next two years.

Old friends reuinted

The University of Kentucky and Gonzaga are consistently among the top ranked teams in the country and the two upcoming matchups are sure to draw plenty of interest and nationwide attention.

Kentucky coach John Calapari and Gonzaga boss Mark Few are good friends, and the two agreed two terms live via a telethon put on by UK. John Calapari and his team were answering calls on the telethon raising money for parts of the state that were affected by the floods that tore through the state of Kentucky.

“This guy gets on me all the time. He wants to schedule a game,” said Calipari on the live call with Few. “But everything’s got to be on his terms. I thought we were Kentucky?”

Game one is in November in Spokane

“First of all, we were fine,” responded Few. “We were looking good, and you just said, ‘Hey, you wanna play?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m good with playing.”

The first game will be played in Spokane, Washington on November 20th of this year. The rematch in Kentucky will be played at Rupp Areana in 2023.

Surprisingly, the two giants of college basketball have met just once before. Mark Few was on the sidelines for that encounter, but Calapari was coaching the University of Memphis when the Wildcats beat the Bulldogs 80-72 in the Maui Invitational.

This year’s matchup is going to have everything. Two of the winningest teams over the last 20 years, going head-to-head with two former AP College Coach of the Year winners. The showcase game will feature two of the best players in the nation. Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe was the National Player of the Year and Drew Timme is a candidate to dethrone him in the upcoming season.
