Ángel Álvarez is one of Cuba’s brightest hopes in the world of MMA. Earlier this month, the 30-year-old secured victory over J.T. Schulte in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC), bringing his professional record to an impressive 9-2 and making him a strong candidate for UFC chief Dana White’s Contender Series.

Álvarez targeting UFC

Speaking to the Miami-based newspaper El Nuevo Herald this week, the fighter was bullish about his prospects for the future, delivering a headline that invites the Cuban people to dream: “There will be a Salsa King in the UFC.”

Álvarez recently participated in Kamaru Usman’s camp for the Nigerian-American’s UFC fight against Joaquin Buckley on Saturday. These months of intense training have helped the Cuban to take his game to the next level, leaving him well positioned to knock on the door of the UFC.

What are Álvarez’s strengths as a fighter?

Beyond being a well-rounded striker with solid takedown defense and ground skills, Álvarez is known for his exceptional physical endurance, arguably his greatest asset in the octagon.

He has won all his fights that have gone to a decision. His relentless pressure and ability to wear down opponents turn his bouts into a living nightmare for his adversaries - a nightmare that could soon unfold in the world’s premier MMA promotion.
