Team USA, just like all American fans, is gearing up for another golfing showdown against Team Europe as the 2024 Solheim Cup comes to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia. Three days of action gets underway on Friday, September 13 culminating in the expected excitement on Sunday as the trophy is handed over. With Stacy Lewis leading the charge as captain, the US team is hungry to bring the trophy back, having last won it in 2017. A tie in Spain last year meant Europe held onto the famous cup.

Talking of that, you likely know that this event is usually held every two years, but this year’s will be the second time since 2000 that it is played back-to-back. The schedule was first thrown off by the 9/11 attacks, which also impacted the Ryder Cup, and then covid-19 caused its own disruptions. Assuming no major incidents in the offing, the Solheim Cup is back to even-numbered years and the men’s equivalent in odd-numbered years.

Out of interest, did you know that the first Solheim Cup was held in 1990 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida? Team USA came out on top then, and there have been 17 more matches since, with the US leading the all-time series 10-8. Europe’s momentum, however, has seen them win two of the last three on US soil, including their 15-13 victory at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
