World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finds himself in a battle to make the cut at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, as he bids to recover from an opening round of 72 at the Colonial Country Club.

That unsuccessful first day left Scheffler at two over par - a score not likely to be good enough to qualify for the weekend’s third and fourth rounds. At the time of writing, however, he had moved back into contention to survive the cut in today’s second round in Fort Worth, Texas, having improved to one over.

What is the projected cut line at the Charles Schwab Challenge?

According to the PGA Tour, 1-over par (+1) is projected to be the cut line at the end of round two of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Scheffler on fire on day 2 at the Charles Schwab Challenge

Scheffler, who won the Masters in Augusta last month, finished in a tie for eighth at the PGA Championship last weekend, having endured an eventful tournament at the Valhalla Golf Club.

On the morning of his second round in Louisville, Kentucky, the 27-year-old was arrested for allegedly disobeying the commands of an officer who was re-directing traffic outside the golf course. Scheffler has been hit with a felony assault charge after Louisville police said he accelerated past the officer and dragged him to the ground, injuring him. The golfer has described the incident as a “big misunderstanding”. His arraignment is due to be held on 3 June.

Defending champion also in cut line battle

The 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge winner, Emiliano Grillo, is also far from guaranteed to make it to the weekend. The Argentine finished his round 2 at 2-over par and is currently sitting on the cut line.
