Fans of Serena Williams might get a chance to see the star play again this summer. The former world number one has hinted that she will return to playing tennis at Wimbledon this year.

Serena Williams’ last tournament

She last played professionally at this same tournament last year, where she had to bow out after injuring her leg while playing against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first set of the first round.

Other tennis stories:

The injury was severe enough to cause her to miss the US Open. She also did not participate in the Tokyo Olympics, nor in the Australian Open.

There had been no indication of when she would return to the sport, but an Instagram story she posted with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the Bitcoin conference in Miami indicates that it could be very soon.

Serena Williams ‘can’t wait’

Williams said, “We’ve been talking about my comeback and he’s been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon. Can’t Wait!” Rodgers looked surprised that she said “Wimbledon” and asked her about the US Open.

She replied, “Wimbledon’s before the US Open, I’ve got to play Wimbledon first. Exciting!” To which Rodgers responded, “She’s back!”

The 40-year-old has 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, and is just one trophy shy of matching Margaret Court’s record for most singles titles.

Williams has not won a Grand Slam tournament since the 2017 Australian Open. She is currently ranked 246th in the world.

Wimbledon is set to be held from June 27 to July 10 at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.
